On August 11, 2007, myself and several other friends had the opportunity to tour PHL's Wilmington, CA shop area. It was made possible by a RR-employee friend that made some connections with the right people on the PHL. After donning PPE and signing release forms, we were given the run of their facility. PHL is a great outfit run by dedicated professionals, and is poised to become an even larger presence in the Port. Most evident on our visit was the presence of their new MP20-3C locomotives, which are replacing their older units (SD20s, "SD18" rebuilds, etc.). PHL is an interesting operation, and if one has an opportunity to see their operations firsthand, they should definitely do so.
