High-energy vocalist Vanessa Davis has been a Chicago favorite since 1978, which is when the aspiring singer joined forces with a group formerly known as The Blues Twisters. After establishing themselves on the local circuit, they formed their own Spectra label in 1981 to release a sultry version of Johnny "Guitar" Watson's "One Kiss." By the time they cut Fast Forward, their 1984 debut album, the band was moving away from swinging jump-blues to concentrate on originals. Their 1990 release, One Heart, is even more of a departure, Davis singing movingly of her own life, with rock-oriented support from her veteran band (including Dick Vonachen on guitar and saxophonist Doug Cannon). ~ Bill Dahl, All Music Guide

I found my copy of Righth hand man. (45rpm) from when I worked @ Ryans. Had to look Vanessa up. Those were the NIGHTS which turned in to daylight??? Is little George still around?

Saw Vanessa play at Mable's in Champaign/Urbana IL about 30 years ago. How can it be that long ago?? Anyway, I've never forgotten the high energy, awesome performances and am so glad that she's still doing gigs. Wish I could see her again! Love to you Vanessa....

Just got a USB turntable so I could digitize some of my old vinyl. Pulled out Fast Forward and wondered, "What ever happened to Vanessa Davis?" I googled her and found this great site. Good to see she's still singing. I saw her a lot in the early 80s in and round the Purdue campus in West Lafayette IN. Vanessa and her band were huge around here and always put on a great show.

I remember Vanessa from the 70s when she used to come to my fathers Hot Dog stand on west Madison. I saw her Live several times in those years. Im soooo glad to see her still live and kickin.

I have had her cover of "One more kiss" stuck in my head for some 25 years ... ever since I watched Vanessa Davis at a small, college bar in Indiana in the early 80's. From posts below, I am so very glad to hear she is still out there kicking it for audiences. She was (and obviously still is) an awesome vocalist.

No Kidding, I was in Amsterdam too! What a great show. She was as intense as the fireworks outside. When will she be back?

I've never seen anything like it. I am from Amsterdam working in a bar I got to know her. We became friends after she played with local bands here. She was great then. But this time she brought her whole band. Even the local musicians were freaked by her talent. They all wanted to stand in with her band. Talent from here don't take to bands so fast, but they loved her.
She has something special. 2008

Vanessa's voice fills the room with with her rich, clear voice, and sends goose bumps up and down my whole body when I hear her sing. Vanessa's singing takes me to a level of music I only found listening to Janis Joplin. Vanessa and her band take the listener to that wonderful soulful ceiling! Vanessa always delivers that super BLUE sound. Thank you so very much, sweet lady.
