This is where the cut branches are turned into wood chips.
There was a ground crew of up to five people to keep up with
the single climber/cutter. Given the roar of both the chain
saw and the chipper, the headphone communication system was
an important safety factor. The cutter always had to know
ahead of time where branches would fall. The ground crew
also had to be alert. Branches would accumulate on the ground
while the cutter was in one part of the tree. As he climbed to
his next target the ground crew sprang into action hauling
cut branches to the chipper.
