Tall Prairie Plants

It's hard to fathom how big many of the Tallgrass Prairie
plants are. Here is an average size woman walking in front
of a Downy Sunflower plant. It looms an easy 9 feet--
(3 meters) above the ground.

Imagine the explorers riding on horseback, or the pioneers
in covered wagons trying to navigate through an ocean of
tough, prickly plants and grasses well above eye level for
most people.

It hurts when I see this look alike terrier enjoying his walk alongside the tall grass as it's only three days ago we lost our Jack Russell due to sudden illness.
Wonderful story to go with your charming shot.

Did you know that when Coronado & his troops rode into Kansas, they couldn't see where they were going because the tall grass was so tall and dense. National and State caretakers of last stands of tallgrass do not show on their websites a picture of such tallgrass. If anyone has or can produce such a picture that also has an object (horse & rider, vehicle, whatever)in it that gives the viewer an idea of the height of the grass (without having to read words to be told the height), please let me know: johnjz@hotmail.com My goal is to incorporate it into a script and hopefully make you and the grass famous!

That story is exactly how Captain John Smith came to invent velcro.
I'm kidding. I just like to multi-task.
Pull your leg and write revisionist history at the same time.
