Hewitt Arch : Superstitions : Count the Soldiers

Superstitions, Arizona

This is the second image I took of this particular Arch. You have to look closely to make out the Silhouette of the Arch on the right hand side of the image. It is about 1/2 way up.

Standing in front of Hewitt Arch, there are dozens of Saguaro Cactus standing as soldiers at attention in front of the arch. Behind are the walls of the Superstitions bathed in the Red and Blue light of the sunrise. For those wondering, this was shot with Daylight WB with only a contrast boost to make use of the entire range of the histogram.

This image (as well as all the others taken that trip) was shoot along side a respected (and accomplished) professional Landscape photographer, George Stocking ( http://www.georgestocking.com ).

Thank you for your kind words. The light that morning was simply fantastic. There were small low puffy clouds everywhere and we really did not think the sun would find a hole. It did and lit the sky almost purple. The Red rocks of the Supers simply ate it up and turned them this deep red you see in the photograph.

I think that would be known as a keeper. Perfect light and detail. Clean! g
