Havasu Falls : Week 1

Havasu Falls

This is an amazingly simple composition with the falls de-emphasized in the background again. Havasu Falls is in the background with the small travertine wall formation in the foreground. When printed, the images soft ethereal nature really works.

Canon EOS 1D ,Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM
This is a 2X2 image mosaic full exif

I know how you feel. I see some work posted on pbase shot with simply point and shoots that really make me question what I am doing. There is some amazing talent out there.

As for being the USAF. I tried after college but they did not want me. Must be another one of my clones:-)

This is truly awesome! Seeing your work makes me want to sell my camera equipment (almost)! You have a great photographic eye! You have definitely have travelled quite a lot also. Some day I may get to go out west and have a blast photographing the scenery. Since I have upgraded to digital, I will save space since I won't have to bring a brick or two of Kodachrome!

I knew a Steve Noyes when I was writing tech manuals (on the MC-130H) for the US Air Force. Were you ever in the USAF?

Regards (and my compliments, of course),

For real. The colors at Havasu have to be experienced to be believed. The water is very high in mineral concentrations and takes on a beautiful Turquoise color. Many of the rocks or vivd red sandstone. Combined, they make for an almost surreal scene.

Are these colors for real??? Terrific composition! Congratulations!

The details of this shot. This was shot with an EOS 1D with an 85mm f1.8 lens (great lens BTW) set at f8.0. A 3 stop ND filter was used to allow me to get an exposure of 3.2 seconds with an ISO speed of 100. WB was set to Daylight with the shot being taken at first light in the morning. The focus was set to just beyond the tree on the right in an attempt to get every thing in focus (I should have shot at f18 and NO ND filter)

A spherical pan head on a tripod was used that allowed me shot 4 frames rotated around the nodal point of the lens to eliminate perspective shifts. These four images were then combined to produce a single high resolution 12MP image.

Great Image ! It looks as if it has been drawn. Did You use special effects, lenses
to make it look this clear ?

Thanks but constructive critique (even if someone really does not like something) is a very positive thing. I am very happy, however, that you liked this one. It is very difficult to find a new view or a unique perspective in Havasu Canyon but I ended up being quite pleased with the results of this one.

I love this image!

I think you did a superb job.

No critique is necessary, this is simply one of those images I wish I had taken.

Warmest,

Jim
