Magical Moments

Owning this property for 14 years has been a wonderful opportunity & we had some fascinating experiences that would have you shake your head in disbelief.

MAGICAL MOMENTS:

Cygnet-sitting:
A few years ago the trumpeter swans had an unfortunate accident. One of the cygnets had been hit by a car and was taken to a local vet (the cygnet did not survive). A week later at ~ 0900h, the swans began calling .... finally around 15 minutes later I went down to the creek to see what was wrong. As I approached, the adult swam out from some grasses midway down the creek, so I pulled up a lawn chair and watched. A few minutes later, the other adult and subsequently the 3 cygnets swam out so they were in plain view. By that time, my husband had come down to see what the fuss was and he no sooner sat down on the lawn chair when both adults left the 3 cygnets 'in our care' and took flight ..... one headed east and the other headed west.... circling the marsh, calling and calling. We assumed that they were looking for the lost cygnet.

We would like to think that the swans called us down to 'keep an eye' on the 'little ones'.

Teaching the baby chickadee to trust us:
One summer we were walking along the trail where the Black-capped chickadees feed from our hands. They are not as eager to feed while raising a family.
We came across a chatty dad and young juvenile. We offered our hand with a few BOSS seeds and soon the adult flew from a branch that was approximately 2' away. The adult flew onto my hand but did not take a seed. He seemed to have a lot to say so I just stood there and listened.

The adult flew back to the juvenile on the branch and chattered away at it. Before long the juvenile flew from the branch and onto my hand. It too ignored the seeds but poked away at my flesh (did not hurt). Dad seem to be instructing it .... and before long it flew back to the branch next to Dad. It would not surprise us to learn that we met these two later on during the winter.

Sharing Dagobah with family and friends:
It gave us great pleasure to share this parcel of paradise. Most people described how relaxing it was.

When we decided to put it on the market we were met with sad faces but an understanding that it was time for us to move on. People have taken time to share their feelings about their experiences there:

Visitor's Memories of Dagobah:

"It offered feelings / an air of serenity, serendipity, silence, sensuous, secret, spiritual,
It speaks to you - i.e., as the Marsh wakes up, the Sandhill Cranes flying over, bird song...
I also remember you saying that when the gate is closed, it's a retreat. When the gate is open, it's hospitality, friendship and shared peace, love, joy and hope."

"Dagobah means memories! The name, the friendship, the beautiful property with ponds, grasses, flowers, birds and trees. The joy of holding a wee birdie in my hand, taking the seed and rushing off to hide it in the bark was a most magical moment for me."

"I recall watching a turtle laying its eggs, just like soap bubbles as we stood on the lane near the house. I had no idea what was going on and had never witnessed or seen newly spawned turtle eggs. That will always stand out."

"Other beautiful reflections include the peace, tranquillity and sheer quiet of the property as we walked and crossed the driveway and looked at the wetlands. It was a place of calm, reflection and beauty when I visited and the changes I have seen in your photos, bear that out. (The gardens are lovely). Tuning your ear to the sounds and breathing in the sights would have been such a sanctuary for all who have been fortunate enough to visit. Those wee girls with their kites and in the winter woods being pulled, witnessing nature, they have benefited from these experiences as have so many."

"When we visited Dagobah on our cross Canada trip in 2018 it was truly the highlight of our whole trip! The moment we pulled in that evening, it was as if we had arrived at an amazing retreat. The beauty and serenity of that property was quite unbelievable! The next morning we couldn't believe how amazing it was to see all the birds and hear their voices and watch them interact with each other. The flower garden took my breath away, it was just gorgeous with color! We enjoyed our tour of the land as well, it's one thing to see a video, a photo or to hear about it, but another thing to actually have a tour and experience the trees, flowers and wildlife there. We felt totally relaxed and at ease when we walked into your house as well, the whole package is at Dagobah!"

"The first time I drove into Dagobah I was enchanted by all the wonderful nature that surrounded it. The peace and natural beauty was a lovely reprieve from the city."

“Dagobah is a special place to escape from the pace of modern life and let the body and soul revitalize. It presents an unprecedented opportunity to closely interact with nature.”

"Priceless memories."

It is our hope to be able to turn Dagobah over to like-minded individuals who have a concern for nature and the environment, which we did in October 2020.

The Covid pandemic makes this place even more valuable as one has beautiful parkland right outside the door. The 50'x60' garden can produce an immense variety of fresh fruit and vegetables. Perennials such as honeyberries, raspberries, strawberries, rhubarb, asparagus, and a variety of herbs! In the past we have grown corn, carrots, tomatoes, squash, potatoes, garlic, zucchini, peas, lettuce, radishes ...........
