The Property (Oceanic Society Field Station)

Our accommodations were very rustic. Our cabana had 2 double beds, bedside table & lamp, open wardrobe with a small bottom drawer. It was not air conditioned but had a ceiling fan and windows on all four sides of the building permitted a wonderful breeze when the winds were blowing. The adjoining bathroom had a toilet, sink and basic shower. Water is a precious commodity and we were asked to shower 'navy style. Rinse, soap up, turn water off and back on for rinsing. There is a short flight of stairs leading to the room. During high tide the area at the foot of the stairs got wet. A foot bath was a must to avoid tracking the powdery sand into our room. The boat-tailed grackles often bathed in the foot baths while we were out snorkeling.
We used the clothesline on the front porch to dry our skins & suits.
This is not a resort ..... the meals were adequate - all buffet style. There was was enough food for most but if someone had a hearty appetite there may not have been enough food to satisfy the individual. We pitched in and cleared the tables after each meal .... not a problem.
We were with a group of people who knew each other except for one couple. They had no problems fitting in and we appreciated hearing about their extensive global travel and snorkeling. If we wanted our space, we'd go back to our cabin and sit on the porch.
