"This bridge is reported to be the largest floating bridge for pedestrians in the world. The "Lady" as it is known to the local inhabitants, was originally built in 1888 by the American Consul Leonard Burlingtom Smith. At 213m (700ft) long, it was regarded as a feat of engineering in its day, and a toll was charged to cross the bridge though people who were too poor to afford shoes were entitled to cross it for free" adapted from The Dive Sites of Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao by Jack Jackson
