2019 was an unusual year for turtles laying eggs. The cool spring resulted in late and diminished numbers of turtles laying eggs. As well, there did not seem to be as many nests dug up at the side of the driveway or in the yard. This turtle was the size of a loonie, quite dark and inactive when we found it.
