In April we found an easier way to get to Bonaire.
We flew to Newark and took the red-eye on Continental Airlines out of Newark N.J.
We arrived in Bonaire at ~ 0430h.
The car we rented from Ilka at Everts Car Rental was at the airport parking lot waiting for us. Ilka was very helpful. We wanted to visit Washington Slagbaai National Park and would need a sturdier car. Ilka was happy to exchange our sedan for a Jeep for the day.
The watchman at Sand Dollar condos let us in to our room at ~ 0500h. We were beat and after a refreshing cold glass of water from the fridge, we crashed!
The island is undergoing change. There are a lot of new buildings.
The shopping district looks quite colourful.
The walk between the Divi Flamingo and Plaza Resort is being lined with interlocking bricks. There are many more ships in port and those days the roads and resorts are congested with tourists.
During our previous trips to Bonaire, we've always stayed at the Divi Resort. It was a 10 minute walk to town and had incredible snorkeling from the shore of the resort.
This time we elected to rent a condo from an owner at the Sand Dollar resorts. It was a studio apartment and was very well kept, had all the amenities we would need and came with a binder filled with instructions on how to operate equipment, etc.
We had a view of the water and the condo was on the ground floor and had a lovely garden and beautiful flowers.
