I found two baby ducks in my yard 2 months ago, the mother was no where to be found. I contacted a lady in a nearby town who volunteers for a wildlife rehab and she agreed to take the ducks. It turns out they are hooded merganser ducks. She did a wonderful job raising them and called me to announce their release last Wednesday, July 18th. She explained to me that they have to be released where there are other ducks, as they need to learn how to protect themselves if a hawk or owl come along. The other ducks will teach them by example, seeing they did not have a mom to teach them. I was unable to get pictures of them when I found them, as they were quite stressed by being caught and trasported, I didn't want to stress them more.
