On the morning of our last day in Rome, Sandy and I climbed to the top of the central dome of St. Peter's Basilica. 323 steps, going around and around in an ever-decreasing width staircase. Once you start you can't go back. For me it was a difficult climb as I'm way out of shape. But when I saw the view from the top I knew it was worth it. This shot shows the passageway coming down. You can see the outside walls curve at the top like the dome itself.
