Malaconotus blanchoti, Grey-headed Bush-shrike

Marakissa, Gambia

If not mutually calling with their typical far-reaching monotone whistles, easily overlooked, since these shrikes move inconspicuously through branches of tall trees in pairs or loose groups. Bold killers of large insects, reptiles, small mammals, birds and nestlings, therefore often mobbed by smaller birds. Found throughout tropical Africa except in the Congo Basin forest.
