The Tower of Canyamel was built for surveillance and as a refuge from the frequent attacks of the corsairs and invaders. It consists of three floors and a central fortress tower 23 metres high. It is an excellent vantage point overlooking the bay of Canyamel and a large part of the municipal areas of Capdepera, Artŕ and Son Servera.
One of the most important defensive towers in Mallorca due to its age and good state of preservation. It is of Moorish origin and its development dates back to the conquest of Mallorca by Jaime I (13th century). After the introduction of sugar cane cultivation (second half of the 15th century), the name of the building was changed from its original one (Torre d'en Montsó) to the current one.
It is a very interesting place to visit. The Tower of Canyamel is located halfway between the towns of Artá and Canyamel.
