Winter damsel, Siberian damsel, Straszka syberyjska, Straszka polnocna (Sympecma paedisca)

The Winter damselfly is protected species in Poland.
It is quite exceptional as a dragonfly - it hibernates over the winter as an adult. The adults take flight immediately when the temperatures reach 12-13 degrees celsius.
The other dragonfly species pass the winter in frozen ponds in the larval stage.
