Architecture of Beskidy - Poland & Slovakia - Photography

According to UNESCO, the wooden churches of southern Poland represent outstanding examples of the different aspects of medieval church-building and for that reason, six of them, including the church in Haczow, have been designated UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The wooden churches in the countryside were frequently sponsored by noble families and often became status symbols.
UNESCO designated Haczow, Sekowa, Binarowa, Blizne, Dębno and Lipnica Murowana churches on the basis of:

"The churches are considered to bear an exceptional testimony to the tradition of church building from the Middle Ages. The churches have also been preserved in the context of the vernacular village and landscape setting.", and "The nominated churches are exceptionally well preserved and representative examples from the medieval type of church, which respected the ambitions of their sponsors."

You will find here also some beautiful wooden churches from Eastern Slovakia wchich belongs to the same cultural range.
