This location is the setting for the bike race in Peter May's novel The Chessmen, which is the 3rd part of a trilogy set in Lewis and Harris. The Bridge to Nowhere (or Garry Bridge) is the end of the planned road up the east coast of Lewis to Ness, which was the project that Lord Leverhulme promoted but which petered out after his death.
