The top of McKenzie Pass opens to a landscape of endless lava fields dotted with scrub pine trees, with mountain peaks on the horizon. My brother and I stopped at Belknap Crater mostly because it was near the end of the climb and we were tired. But it's not a bad spot for a photo.
