Somewhere along Brice Creek

Day five took us along Dorena Lake on an old railroad bed converted to bike path for about 11 miles, then followed Brice Creek for another 15 before a steep climb to a double summit ridge. Besides the awesome views, the bonus this day was that a part of the climb was over newly paved forest service road. We reportedly were the first to cycle on it. And the payoff was what for me was the most exhilirating downhill of the week, a part of which again approached a 10% grade. The ride ended in the small town of Oakridge. Views like those in this photo were taken for granted, they were so frequent. Or, was it that we were well into the grinding phase of Cycle Oregon, where each day seemed to have more climbing at steeper grades. It's hard to appreciate the beauty of the surroundings when your head's down, your heart's pounding, and you don't want to call for a rest stop before your brother does.... grin.
