Getting Away From the Rat Race in Yellowstone 07_08_06.jpg

We go to Yellowstone to commune with nature, to relax. We go to get away from the day to day grind. But people tend to think alike; so, we end up on our vacations with everyone else. What does that mean? It means we have to deal with traffic jams. We deal with crowded restaurants, hotels and parking lots. You get to listen to the booming sound of the radio in the kid's car behind you. We watch parents yell at their kids and each other. At least we get to enjoy it all in much prettier surroundings.

Here is a little secret. In Yellowstone most people sleep in, get up late, shower, eat breakfast. They head out to explore the park around 9:30 or 10:00 AM. They are done by dinner. So get up early, sunrise is always wonderful. Stay late and enjoy the park before and after the crowds.

Yep looks like spring and fall in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, well minus the green trees and buffalo. Yep traffic.

Boy did we get spoiled by going in May. But it would be great to be there again no matter what the traffic is like.

Bill.... the cars have stopped for bison crossing the road. But... it is a crowded place in the summer when the bulk of the 3+million visitors a year "visit."

There must have been a bear somewhere in this mess. Seems like a big crowd for a few buffalo............
