Utah or Happy Valley 12_09_05.jpg

Ah..."home sweet home" as the saying goes. Then how sweet can home really be? Many of us spend a lifetime trying to get someplace else. You know the "grass is always greener" type of thing. I'm not one of those people. I kind of like home right here in Utah. Even with all its oddities and quirks Utah can be interesting. I'm not a member of the local club...you know, the "Mormons" which brings its own strange set of obstacles; but, I still love good ol' Happy Valley.

This valley, "Utah Valley" to be precise, is my home. I didn't pick it; my parents did a very long time ago. When you're twelve you kind of have to go where the family takes you and my family took me here to Happy Valley. I could have escaped but I guess I just never had that much ambition.

"Happy Valley" is a local euphemism for the area. I think it is something like River City. And, there is trouble in River City. Yup thats right, right here in River City...oh I mean Utah Valley, the land of milk and honey, the promised land, right here in Zion there is trouble.

Do you notice the brown haze settled at the bottom of our little valley? That is only one of the problems here in Happy Valley, good ol' Utah. Oh wait, what you can't see is how polluted the lake is under the ice. It is so polluted from the waste from farms, the cities and the industry that surround it, that you might not want to eat the fish from the lake. Oh and this year they tell us hunters you might not want to eat the ducks you kill here. Yeah that is my crystal clear pristine Valley.

Like I said there is trouble right here in good ol' Happy Valley.

I went to BYU and have actually swam (once) in Lake Utah (when I was a kid). It was kinda funny, when we were swimming in the lake we kept finding dead fish but did not think anything of it at the time.

It's a beautiful area despite the pollution, plus you don't have to go very far away to get almost completely away from it. Perhaps man will learn to clean it up...it has happened in other parts of th country. Your galleries are wonderful.

Really nice Pano work. Nice treat to be able look through a window like this - at least, until I can stand there and see it myself. I bet on any given day, you could call this place 'Lenticular Landing'. Pretty - g

Is Happy Valley polluted? Yes. But don't let too much of the haze get to you. Hundreds of years ago the Native Americans called it "Valley of Mist". So the valley has always had haze and some of what you see is natural. Yes, here in the Colorado Front Range we have a brown cloud too; disgusting! Sad to see the polluted Utah Lake, especially when the first white man (Spaniard) to see it said it said it was the most beautiful blue lake he had ever seen. Hey, those are my ancestors you are talking about that polluted that lake; I curse them too!

Very fine piece of work, I did a pano last month using the same lens, not quite as good as this!

Shame about the pollution, sort of spoils this idyllic scene (now I've read about it). Great pic though.

Very nice pano indeed.
I particularly like the partial snow cover in the foreground, as it ads much to the sense of depth.

Regarding the pollution..... Yes, it is a bother....but then.....it is only temporary.

If you were to draw an-earth-age timeline a mile long the length of time that we've been polluting would be about the thickness of a sheet of paper on the line, being only 200 years or so. Humans have existed only a few milimeters in total.
I suspect that long after we are are gone the earth will, once again, return to its pristine condition.
The earth will have suffered very little by our transient existance.
It is we who may suffer the consequences of our damage....that damage accelerating as it is.

Thanks for the shot.

Your fine pano really does tell the story. Nuts... pollution drives me bonkers!
