Wanda07_18_04c.jpg

Today we have a guest photographer's picture of Wanda. Wanda and her girl friend Stacy climbed to the top of the ridge behind our house today. Stacy took the photo. This hike is pretty brutal you climb 5500 feet in about 4 miles. I'm not in good enough shape to make the climb. Wanda does this climb every few weeks during the summer. This photo is taken at about 10,000 feet above sea level.

Here are a couple more from the hike http://www.pbase.com/image/31498784 and http://www.pbase.com/image/31499988

The thing I remember about this hike was that I thought poor Stacy was gunna die! She sure was a huffin' and a puffin' during the climb. I felt bad because it turns out she had been suffering from a cough for a couple of weeks before the hike. She went to the doctor the very next day and was diagnosed with a wicked bacterial infection in her lungs! (cringe) No wonder she was struggling! She loved the hike in spite of her suffering though and is anxious to join Me again this year!

I wouldn't say in this image the colors were as good as they could be. If I had taken this with my 10D I would have added a circular polarizing filter to the lens(something you can't do with Canon S400). That would cut some of the glare in the sky, saturated the colors and given more definition and contrast to the clouds.

If you haven't purchased a circular polarizing filter for you Z1 you should do so. It will help with your sky color. Another useful tool is a graduated neutral density filter. Another trick is to take two images on a tripod. Expose one for the sky and clouds. Next take a second picture exposed for the foreground. In photoshop you blend the two exposures.

I was wondering how you can get such vivid colors, when you're out in the open. And especially when part of the shot includes the bright skies... I come from Greenland and have a Minolta Dimage Z1, that i'm using quite much to get to know the camera and when i take pictures of the mountains with a clear sky being a part of the pictures, I can't seem to get the vivid colors in the picture. But besides from that, you guys are really doing an amazing job, I hope you have fun doing it, because it sure looks like it from the look of your gallery:o)

What a wonderful view!

What you can't see in this picture is how My feet are KILLING Me! (grin) The highlight of the day, besides the spectacular view, was the 6' snake we saw! I just love it when I see critters while out hiking. Wes, you missed a great hike! But you can redeem yourself by taking Me for a hike up "timp" 2 weeks from today. It will be a full moon then, so a midnight hike sounds like fun to Me!

I've been there more than once and it is spectacular but I'm not risking a heart attack. Of course Wanda is always looking for new victims to take to the top of her mountain. Stacy was todays victim. I hear she is pretty crippled up after the hike today.

For a view like that, I'd risk a heart attack just to see that once.
Absolutely stunning. Thank you Stacy and Wanda for sharing.
