These images are from the 35th annual Maryland Governor's Cup Yacht Race, an overnight sailing race covering a 70-mile course from Annapolis, the modern capital of Maryland, to St. Mary's City, that state's colonial capital. It began just before sundown Friday August 1 and ended the next day in the late afternoon. Racing photos were taken from aboard George and Kim Anderson's 12 meter J-Boat sloop BOUNDLESS.

The winds were light for the most part, thus the start of the race was not as dramatic as it had been in previous years. However, no storms came across the race course until the mid-morning on the Potomac River as most participants were approaching the finish line near St. Mary's City.
