2005 Maryland Governor's Cup Yacht Race (Chesapeake Bay)
These photos of the 32nd annual Governor's Cup sailing race were taken from aboard one of the competing boats, ACTAEA, a 40-foot Hinckley Bermuda yawl owned and skippered by long-time racing sailors Mike and Connie Cone.
The Governor's Cup is a 70-mile long overnight race from Annapolis to St. Mary's City held every late July or early August. This year's race, in which over 160 boats competed, was characterized by high winds brought on by several fierce thunderstorms during most of the night followed by dead calms and low breezes in the morning hours. Consequently, for most participants the race took almost twice as long as usual.

John, Your pictures are really great! I'm thrilled that the shots illuminated by lightning really worked so well. I liked the ones with all the motion too. Gee, I guess I look as if I was having a good time, which I surely was. Can't wait to see more. Connie Cone
