Typical Front Focus crop.jpg

Here is a 100% crop. Photo was taken from above the subject. Focus was over subject's left eye. The left eyebrow, top eye lashes and the bridge of his nose are sharp. The iris of the eye is soft.

Since the sensor covers the eye and eyebrow area it is possible the sensor picked up on the eyebrow. However, the iris to eye whites transition has much more contrast as does the eye lid to whites transition. It's certainly possible either one of us moved between focus lock and shutter release. But this focus error is consistent with the chart measurements and many other photos where I did not try to compensate. This illustrates how such a small error in focus can impact a photo at large apertures.
