Late January I visited Geraldton WA, for work to view the port working areas and drive to the sites that would be built later this year, whilst i was there I visited the HMAS Sydney memorial. Sydney was lost in November 1941 after a battle with the Kormorant, a German commerce Raider, Sydney was lost with all hands. She lay at rest for 64 years before being rediscovered in 2008, the memorial was bulit before the rediscovery and the dome has one stainless steel seagull for each memebr of the ships company, the women looking out to sea represents the wifes, mother and lovers left behind to ponder their fate, this was the RAN's greatess loss of life in combat and an enduring mystery for years.
