Located in a Scientific and Natural Area near by is the last remaining tower, 30 Feet high, of St. Peter Sandstone, in Minnesota.
The two additional formations in our state have been worn away or fallen down. St Peter Sandstone is widespread formation of
of pure quartz sandstone in the north-central U.S. It was formed during the Ordovician Period around 450 Million years ago and
can be seen in numerous locations around St.Paul and Minneapolis.
