What better way to recover from a black-tie dinner in LA than to escape to the retro-town of Palm Springs? While I was hoping for cooler weather (it was 107 in the 2nd week of May), Joshua Tree National Park was only an hour drive away and at least 20-degrees cooler. We only had a few hours in the park (sadly, at mid-day so there was no warm sunset or sunrise light), but here are a few shots of the high desert. What a barren & desolate place--full of huge piles of boulders, scrub-brush and the signature Joshua Trees. We were pleassantly surprised on the Barker Dam trail to find petroglyphs on the return loop....check it out if you ever make it there.
