Crested Butte Wildflowers

On the 4th and final leg of our vacation, Bill & I visited Crested Butte. Dubbed the "Wildflower Capital of the World", we visited the week after the wildflower festival in mid-July. This is my kind of town...lots of natural beauty, dog-friendly (we met quite a few happy canines on the trails), and excellent pizza & beer venues. We hiked the West Maroon Pass, an 8.5-mile wonderland of wildflowers and mountain views. Note: if you're not used to the elevation, hiking takes a bit more effort....the West Maroon trail started at ~9500' elevation and gained 3000' in the over 4-miles to the pass. If you're flipping the coin whether it's worth it to hike to the pass, I'd advise going for it--the views are hard to beat. Other cool finds in CB: the Notorious Fig pizza at the Secret Stash (whose decor looks more like an opium den than pizzeria), the Brick for a respectable selection of draft microbrews, and Chris' awesome banana waffle breakfast at the Purple Mountain Lodge (the chocolate chip-oatmeal-almond cookies weren't too shabby either). Before heading back to Seattle, we took some advice from our fellow B&B'ers and visited the West End Tavern in Boulder for great burgers & microbrews.
