Abell 2666

Galaxy Cluster Abell 2666 in Pegasus

Abell 2666 is a tight galaxy cluster located about 375 million light years away. Its largest member is the huge cD elliptical NGC 7768. The distance would seem to place this on the far edge of the Perseus-Pisces supercluster, but Atlas of the Universe suggests that the galaxy groups in Pegasus form an independent small supercluster. Note the distorted barred spiral PGC72600 in upper left, which has a "fan" of stars spreading to its upper right.


Exposure: Total exposure time about 8.25 hours, 151:35:32:31 x 2 minutes LRGB. All bin 1x1. Data collected July and August 2019.
Light pollution: Bortle 7-8 (white zone, NELM about 4.5)
Seeing: Average FWHM of subs around 2.4 arcsecs
Image scale at capture: 0.6 arcsecs/pixel = f/5.7
Scale of presentation: 1.2 arcsecs/pixel (50% of full scale)
