THE HILL IN THE WINTER WAS LIKE OUR SKI SLOPE. IN THE SUMMER OUR RACE TRACK. THERE WERE TIMES THAT SOME OF THE BOYS MADE CARTS OUT OF OLD CARRIAGES AND WENT DOWN THIS HILL. I REMEMBER WHEN STEPHANIE DODDS LET HER SISTER ROLL DOWN THIS HILL IN HER BABY CARRIAGE. IT WAS STOPPED BEFORE IT CRASHED INTO THE BUSHES THAT WERE AT THE END OF THE HILL.

my name is taria adrianne's daughter my mom grew up here and I spent many summers in the amsterdam homes in the 80's. I remeber going to sambas for snacks and the red apple for my grandmom. I remeber the hot dog cart on the side of 90 and the ice cream truck in the cirlce. I also remember the parties in the plyground. I even remeber when they were building the performing arts school. I loved spending my summers there. my nanny passed in januuary and as long as i can see thses pictures her memory will live on. thanks

My name is Sandra Lamolli. This URL was given to me by my sister Myrna. I was very amazed to see a site which has to do with the Amsterdam Projects. Great job Julio. I see a post in here from Wanda Peters who mentions my mom Ana Lamolli from 70 Amsterdam Ave #11A. She is alive and well. Lives in New Jersey and my sisters Myrna and Judy also lives in New Jersey. I moved to Pennsylvania. Wanda, you brought back alot of memories for me and my mom. Myrna, showed mom what you had said and she had the biggest smile on her face. Mom sends her blessings to you and family. I was invited to the Reunion by Gladys Curet and I'm sorry I didn't go. I would of loved to have seen alot of people that I see on the pictures. Please keep everyone inform as far as the next reunion and the Lamolli family will show up. Does anyone remember the Security cop Larry? My name is Wanda Peters & I grew up in Amsterdam projects which was a challenging but wonderful experience . No one could have put it better than Stevie Wonder , when he said "living just enough , just enough for the city" . We were inner city kids indeed , simply trying to make some sense out of the world around us . I'll never forget "Mrs. Underwood's " infamous laundry room or "Mr. Cunningham's" fish truck in the circle . Who could forget sneaking in the 59th street pool at night or running to Pioneer's to get the chicken that faithfully went on sale on a weekly basis? We were much more than a neighborhood back then , we were family . Although I was born unto Molissie & Furmon Peters , I parents were not limited to them . Let's see , there was also; J.D. & Anna Cunningham , Frank & Edna Shaw , Willie & Ana Morse , Mary Woodson , Bernice Ruffin , Mr & Mrs. Richardson , Mr.& Mrs. Lockhart , Mrs. Blow , Mrs. Lamolli , "Carmen" & "Margie" . These were the folks who lived in the same building as me . Projectwise , there was , Sonny & Anita Graham , Mrs. Underwood & whomever else I left out . Folks were a whole lot smarter back then for they realized , it takes an entire community to raise children ! May God continue bless all my parents who lived (lives) in the projects & may they forever remain in His good gracious... Thanks so much for giving me the opportunity to write the words that only someone who grew up in Amsterdam could possibly understand . Julio, I was born and raised in Amsterdam along with Robin and her sister, Janice was/is my best friend (1969). My first reunion was 2001, i have relocated to Califonia. I must say I was overwhelmed by all the love and seeing almost everyone i grew up with and my parents grew up with (Cyd Hammond & Tony Nelson). I have many, many photos, let me know how to get them to you!!

I can't remember you at this time,I think I will need something to jog my memory. But I was born and raised in Amsterdam Project. My mother Delores Toyloy came to Amsterdam in April of 1957, born in June 1957. My mother raised 5 girls and 1 son here. I have attended the Reunion since 1998. I lived in 247 W. 61 Drive apt 3A and then moved to larger apt same building apt 5E. My mother was on the board of directors at the Community Center, and my sister Brenda (aka)Cissy was an active member for many years. She also helped with the archives that were created along with Cheryl Turney. Well, anyway I have many photos that would increase the beauty of this beautiful website.

Julio.....great shots of the "old" and "new" neighborhood.....brings back an awful lot of good memories...I get around the neighborhood often and walk through the projects and just dream of what we all use to be like and enjoy....man those days were great!

take you in the back of our building and "waste" you on the chess board. Since we are
both getting older, I figure you would remember me by that past experience. In any

What a wonderful tour of the neighborhood. I wander around the projects whenever I get to the city but only have the pictures in my head. Now I can visit whenever I want. I do plan to attend the reunion next year but have to sharpen my softball skills. Thanks Julio!
