My great-grandmother was named Catherine (called Kitty) Clifford, and she came to the US from Wales when she was 13 or so. Kitty lived until she was about 93, and I have fond memories of her. Kitty’s own mother died when she was just a young girl, and her father and brothers were all miners in and around the area of Cardiff, Whales. When they found themsleves unable to care for her as a young girl, Kitty was sent to live with an Aunt here in the US. Kitty passed through Ellis Island, and her name is on the restored wall there that lists all of the immigrants who passed through.

You can choose to believe it or not, but everyone in my family says that Kitty had skill as a clairvoyant… she could see things or had premonitions of them. She also made a few dollars on the side by reading Tarot cards for people, and put my grandmother and her siblings through Catholic school with her church frowned upon (yet Sunday offering collection)accepted earnings.
