Huge lava flow nearly the size of Rhode Island in south central Idaho. Under the desolate landscape is an aquafier holding water approximately equal to Lake Erie. Visitors can hike trails across lava flows ,through lava tubes, climb cinder cones and peak into spatter cones. At first glance there is nothing but miles of crumpled black lava but closer inspection reveals minature flowers and bright lichens struggling for survival and converting the cinders to soil.
