Fort Casey artillery piece

One of two 10-inch artillery pieces mounted on disappearing carriages at Fort Casey, Washington. Located in central Whidbey Island, Fort Casey was built in the early 1900’s with long-range guns to protect the entrance to Puget Sound against any invading ships, but was quickly rendered obsolete by newer armaments on ships and aerial warfare. The fort has the only two remaining large caliber “disappearing” guns in America.
