Hippopotamus amphibious – The hippopotamus, or “river horse” as its name means in Greek, spends
most of its day in and around the waters of eastern and southern Africa feeding on plants. It is
known as one of the most dangerous of the African mammals, due in large part because the males are
VERY territorial. What is the plural of hippopotamus? Hippopotamuses and hippopotami are both
acceptable, though most people will just call them hippos, for short.
