Misty (1999 - 2013) - Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier

Misty was our Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier.
Misty had the most gentle-hearted soul. We could flip her upside down, scale her teeth, or use her as a pillow and she wouldn't make any fuss.
She started out as a black-faced bandit, stealing ham from the table. Baby Misty also loved to sink her baby teeth in a nicely deflated balloon, never popping the balloon with her teeth. She then grew into a beautiful dog that loved absolutely everyone. She even befriended a wild rabbit.
In the summer time, she loved to drink the cool water from a garden hose nozzle set to the mist setting. In winter, she became a true snow dog. She ploughed her face through the snow until she weighed twice her weight from the amount of snow stuck to her fur.
She was also very intelligent. We couldn't trick her into doing something she didn't want to do. She would only eat the best treats like veal chews. One time she was attacked by two Rottweilers on a walk, she was able to find her way back home under extreme stress.
Misty unconditionally loved every single member of the family equally. When anyone came to the door she would rush to the door with her tail wagging to greet whoever came in. On her walks, she acted like our scout. She would walk in the front of the pack, frequently looking back to make sure none of the pack members were lost. She loved it when the whole family was together. Her ears would flap up and down as she walked with a happy bounce.
She also loved to take showers. She would run to the upstairs washroom when we said the word shower. She loved it when we spray her back with warm water at the end of every session.
Paper and toilet paper rolls were on the list of things Misty would love to munch on. She would dig through the trash looking for paper towels. We even had to move our toilet paper holder to a higher area so she wouldn't be able to get at it.
Misty was a true fighter. After the diagnosis of Misty's bladder cancer in Dec. 2011, she held on for another year and 11 months against all odds. The vet told us she had a maximum of 6 months to live after the diagnosis, but Misty proved him wrong. We believed that Misty held on as long as she did because she knew we couldn't stand the thought of losing her. Misty tried very hard to pull through several bouts of sickness, always pulling through each one. She held on as long as she could. We couldn't have asked anymore of her.

Misty is a blessing from God. We have learned a lot from her to be a better person.
We all love Misty very much. There is nothing that can replace such a kind-hearted gentle soul in our lives.
