Hello Simon. Your effort in getting yourself reall low, to take this shot really paid off. Wonderful detail and exposure. And because you stopped down to f6.3. you got that whole bird in super focus and maintained a sweet bokeh at the same time. Smart photography and super results. Michael.

The head and tail are as: Canard d'amérique, american wigeon, anas americana. But the back seems differently. Nos rust as here.
