Kings Park and Botanic Garden comprises 400 ha, of which approximately 267 ha is bushland.
On the 1 October 1872 an area of 432 acres (175 ha) on Mount Eliza was gazetted as a public park by the Commissioner for Lands, Sir Malcolm Fraser, who had submitted this proposal to and obtained the approval of the Governor, Sir Frederick Weld, more than a year previously. Kings Park was declared an A class reserve in 1900.
Today the total area of the Park is approximately 400 ha, adjacent to the Swan River and approximately 1.5 km from the Central Business District of Perth.
