Government House, Perth: Open Day - 24th October, 2004
Approx 3 times a year, the official residence and grounds of the State Governor is open to the public. I haven't been before, but it has been 18 months since it was last open, due to refurbishment of the ballroom, so I thought "Why not?".
From the Guide Book "Welcome to this very special house and gardens which have been the home of successive Governors of Western Australia for the last 141 years. The House was designed in the Gothic Revival style of the Victorian period by the Comptroller-General of Convicts, Captain E.Y.W. Henderson.
Goverment House is both a part of the history of Western Australia and the scene of important occasions in the ongoing affairs of state. We are committed to the initiative of engaging the people of the State with this aspect of their heritage".
Governor John Stephen Hampton (1862-1868) took up residence in 1863 prior to completion of the House in 1864.
What a beautiful piece of history. You should post it on housetribe.com too. It would be a great way to share the house with other members who all appreciate a beautiful home!
