There had been an X4.9 solar flare, but its effects were expected largely to miss the Earth. So it was a pleasant surprise to see the best aurora display of the solar cycle so far. All pictures taken with a Nikon D800e digital camera at iso 2500, lenses either a Nikon 50mm f/1.4 at f/2 or Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 at 16mm f/2.8. Exposures 4-10 seconds.
