Birthday Fun

Bolingbrook, IL USA

Brendon's 1st Birthday party.
This is a Chinese(regional) traditional game which we play when a child turns one.
Every object place on the mat symbolizes something of good fortune.
For example, the scallion stands for intelligence because the word for it sounds the
same as the word for intelligent. the red buns symbolizes food, the abacus(replace
by the calculator) symbolizes that the child grows up to be a successful business
person, and money stands for, well, money!

The objective is to have the child pick up as much of the object as possible to symbolize
what his/her life will be in the future.

It's fun for the adults and the child!!!

Well, Brendon went right for the calculator and hand it to his mom. he then proceed to
pick up the coins, then more coins, then the paper currency, then more paper currency.
That's all he picked up.

I guess it's a good sign. HAHAHA.

All in good fun. I just want to him to be healthy and happy.

Very interesting and I see the fun in this custom! So he's not going to be say a farmer? But I don't see an animal placed anywhere or a ball to make him sportsman ... so maybe the grownups helped fate a little here?
