The tree at the farm was cut down and placed in the tree stand November 27, 2004. Buds have appeared and grown all over the tree. But this victim of frustrated growth and deformity is only 3/4 inches tall -- a runt. Buds of similar age on this tree are two inches long or so.

But look at the fascinating crown of needles! And observe the glistening drop of sap positioned as a sentinel guardian at it's base!

I loved this little bud! The arrangement of the spike-like needles reminded me of a Mexican Indian head dress. And the drop of sap was there for days--very faithful!
