Surirella gemma, (diatom). DIC, 63X Plan Apo (1.4 NA), 1.4X Teleconverter, 0.0 Sharpness

The frustule of this diatom exhibits uniform point to point spacing of 0.41 micrometers, and in well focused portions of the silicon, the bumps actually appear to be V-shaped projections. The V-shaped projections are clearly visible in this image, which also exhibits no moire patterns. The depth of field with this objective lens is approximately 0.2 micrometers. The only modifications made to the image were minor changes in contrast, saturation and overall brightness. All image processing was performed in SPP, and the sharpness was left at the default setting of 0.0.
