start of route 66
adams street in chicago - the start of route 66. It was fun trying to get here. You're not supposed to stop anywhere or you risk a hefty fine (I did it anyway).

gas station
there are several of these on the old 66. Looks like a bunch of people just bought this stuff on ebay and stuck it in front of a building.

this one had a creepy looking guy inside - I took the picture and drove away

meramec caverns barn ad
considering the caverns are like 250 miles from here, it's an interesting find. There used to be hundreds of these barn ads around but they have since been outlawed.

chain of rocks bridge and mississippi
the old chain of rocks bridge - closed to traffic however you can walk or bike across it now. Note the 22 degree bend in the middle of the span.

chain of rocks bridge
I walked from Illinois to Missouri on the bridge. This is the first place so far that has creeped me out - it's sooooo isolated and deserted. There were a few other people walking across the bridge for what looked like their daily exercise routine.
