Fall in the Sierra Mountain Range is truly spectacular and Convict Lake offers the very best array of color accented by towering 13,000' Mt. Morrison. The lake was originally called Diable Lake but a major prison break in 1871 resulted in 6 convicts fleeing to the lake and Sheriff Morrison losing his life. The very deep Convict Lake sits at over 7000' and surrounded by mountains on three sides.
