Within a mile of the house is Lake Ray Hubbard.
This is a huge man-made reservoir that is frequented by boaters, kayackers, fishermen, and families out for a day by the lake. It is a sprawling lake that is located in Dallas, Texas in the counties of Dallas, Kaufman, Collin, and Rockwall, just north of Forney, Texas, built on the East Fork Trinity River and impounded by the Rockwall-Forney Dam.

It is my "go-to" place, close to home, for a quick photo outing, especially good for sunset shots.

There are a number of restaurants at The Harbor in Rockwall to get a good meal with a lake view and to let the kids frolic in the spray park.
There is also a Hilton Hotel there on the lake for out-of-town visitors.
