Miss Mollie Sue (my little black pug) and I headed over to Rockwall on Saturday morning.
The Rockwall Farmer's Market has ended for the season, but today we are attending the 3rd Annual Rockwall Rib, Rub & Run.
In the dark of the morning the smokers were set up before we got there and the run had already taken place.

If we didn't know better, we would have thought the town square was on fire from all the smoke but we could smell the meat cooking.

Now where I came from (New Jersey), when someone said they were going to "barbeque", what they meant was... they were going to fire-up the grill and cook some hot dogs and hamburgers.
But in Texas when they say they are going to "barbeque"... they mean the real deal!!

If you've never attended a barbeque cook-off or a chili cook-off, you are in for a treat! Today's cook-off was all about ribs!
The folks who do this stuff on a regular basis are serious about their meat, rubs, wood, heat and the stuff that you wash it all down with.
But don't let them fool you... they are the most crazy and fun-loving people on the planet and will treat you like family!

Mollie and I were only going to stay a couple hours, and ended up spending the entire day because we were having such fun!
Here again we met a lot of nice people and also four-legged friends and got to sample some good barbeque!

Our thanks to the city of Rockwall, the local businesses and to all those who participated in this delicious event!
If you've never attended a cook-off... make plans to do so! And if you do... you will be hooked!
You might even consider firing up your own smoker and joining in a competition!
