The fence divides the Amish from other folk who use vehicles with rubber tires, as shown by the cart drawn up to the fence. The Amish do not use wheels with rubber tires since that would be a threat to their well-being. Amish folk live close to the land without any outside distractions such as telephones, cars, computers or televisions. They live within the safety of their faith and closeknit families. Children attend grades 1-8 in a one-room schoolhouse....all classes together. Higher education is not permitted.
