Pratapgad:
This fort was named after the "Pratap" (Act of Valour) of Shivaji Maharaj
in slaying his assailant Afzal Khan. This fort is located amdist lofty ranges of
the Sahyadris which soar to a height of 4800 feet above the mean sea level. The
fort is surrounded by deeply forested valleys which were ideal for guerilla
warfare which the Marathas waged against the Muslims to lay the roots of the
freedom struggle and of the Maratha empire.
